About the Author

Mr. Yoshio Ishizaka joined Toyota in 1964 on earning a degree in law from Tokyo’s Hitotsubashi University. His career has centered on overseas business, and he has served two extended stints at Toyota operations outside Japan: six years in Australia in the late 1970s and four years in the United States in the late 1980s.

Mr. Ishizaka served as Senior Vice President and Chief Coordinating Officer of Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. from 1986 to 1990, while helping to develop the special project that became the Lexus Division.

Mr. Ishizaka then became General Manager of the Europe division at Toyota in 1990. In that position, he supervised accelerating efforts to build an integrated, local organization in Europe to support expanded manufacturing, marketing, and product development there. Named to Toyota’s Board of Directors in 1992, Mr. Ishizaka returned to the U.S. sales arm to serve as President from 1996 to 1999. He returned to Japan in 1999, whereupon he was promoted to Senior Managing Director in charge of overseas operations. In 2001, he became Executive Vice President of Toyota, and in 2005, he became Senior Advisor to the Board of Directors to Toyota

A native of Tokyo, where he was born in 1940, Mr. Ishizaka now resides in Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture with his wife Teruko. He enjoys fishing and taking long walks, and he also likes to watch movies. The Ishizakas have three sons. --Publisher

About the Author
Ian J. Thompson is a Nuclear Physicist in the Nuclear Theory and Modeling Group at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, USA, having until 2006 been Professor of Physics at the University of Surrey, UK. His research deals with coupled-channels and few-body models for nuclear structure and reactions, especially concerning halo nuclei. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics.

Filomena Nunes is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, and the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory, at Michigan State University. Her research has focused mainly on direct nuclear reactions as a tool for nuclear astrophysics with particular emphasis in breakup and transfer.

About the Author
John Dixon has taught HVAC/Refrigeration and Steering/Suspension/Brakes at Centennial College School of Transportation since 1999. He has been Department Coordinator for the Truck and Coach Mentorship there, as well as the Modified Apprenticeship Program, for eight years. A member of the Toronto Automotive Transportation Service Superintendents Association and the Program Advisory Committee for Mack/Volvo Trucks, Mr. Dixon is also Vice Chair of the Curriculum Advisory Committee for Ontario Colleges. His professional licenses include Canadian license 310-S (Automotive), 310-T (Truck), and the Ontario Mobile Refrigeration license. John Dixon also wrote Modern Diesel Technology: Preventive Maintenance and Inspection (Delmar, 2010).
